12 मार्च को भारत के प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी जी और फ्राँस  के राष्ट्रपति इमानुएल मैक्रों ने उत्तर प्रदेश के सबसे बड़े 75 मेगावाट (101 मेगावाट डीसी) क्षमता के सौर ऊर्जा संयंत्र का उद्घाटन किया। मिर्ज़ापुर ज़िले के विजयपुर ग्राम में लगभग 528 करोड़ रुपए की लागत से स्थापित इस संयंत्र से प्रतिवर्ष 13 करोड़ यूनिट बिजली का उत्पादन होगा। इस संयंत्र की स्थापना फ्राँस  की कंपनी ENGIE ने नवीन और नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा मंत्रालय की सौर पार्क योजना के अंतर्गत की है। इससे पहले 11 मार्च को राष्ट्रपति भवन में अंतरराष्ट्रीय सौर गठबंधन (International Solar Alliance-ISA) का प्रथम स्थापना दिवस सम्मेलन आयोजित किया गया था। इस सम्मेलन में 23 देशों के प्रमुखों ने हिस्सा लिया था, जिनमें 6 उपराष्ट्रपति, उपप्रधानमंत्री और 19 मंत्री शामिल थे। क्या है सौर ऊर्जा? सूर्य से प्राप्त शक्ति को सौर ऊर्जा कहते हैं। इस ऊर्जा को ऊष्मा या विद्युत में बदलकर अन्य प्रयोगों में लाया जाता है। सूर्य से प्राप्त ऊर्जा को प्रयोग में लाने के लिये सोलर पैनलों की आवश्यकता होती है। सोलर पैनलों में सोलर सेल (फोटोवोल्टेइक) होत...

The nation who have massive oil reserves are turning to wind and solar to generate power at home and help extend the life of its crucial crude reservoir. Saudi Arabia plans to develop almost 10 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2023, starting with wind and solar plants in its vast northwestern desert. The effort could replace the equivalent of 80,000 barrels of oil a day now burned for power. Add in natural gas projects set to start later this decade, and the Saudis could quadruple that number, according to consultant Wood MacKenzie Ltd. That could supplant all the crude burned in the kingdom during its winter months. “Renewable energy is not a luxury anymore. If domestic use continues like this, eventually the Saudis won’t have spare oil to export,’’ said Mario Maratheftis, chief economist at Standard Chartered Plc.
